Isaiah says that Jesus would be a man acquainted with grief.
Isa 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief! There are many sources of grief, such as the loss of a loved one to death, the loss of a relationship. Rejection is hurtful. It causes great sorrow to lose someone we love. Especially when they reject us for any reason. Grief in this particular scripture refers to “H2483, which means malady, anxiety, calamity: disease, grief, (is) sick (-ness). Have you ever been grieved to the point of being sick?”
Jesus was acquainted with grief because it wasn’t his, it was ours. He carried our grief, Isa 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
What does all that mean to us?
Our loneliness, our broken-heartedness, the deep sorrow of every child of God to lay a loved one to rest was borne by Him on the cross. Every accusation made by those who do not know your heart was nailed to that cross! The sorrow of every forgotten mom who prays for a call from their children and every fathers’ weariness from the expectations laid on him by the need to care for his family! Every fear of failure, every doubt, every sickness and disease was laid on him. No, not just my load but the load of every man, woman, boy, and girl in the world.
2Co 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
2Co 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
2Co 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Our message should be that nothing is separating you from God. He stands with open arms, waiting for you. Jesus became sin and died on the cross to pay the penalty for it for the world. This means the worst sinner can come to God through Jesus and be reconciled to Him. Our sins are not imputed or counted! Our sin is washed away. God refuses to remember it against us. We were given one message. Be reconciled to God. Paul called it the ministry of reconciliation. The Lord isn’t looking to throw you away – he died to save you, to heal you, and to reconcile you to the Father! Luk 12:31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. Luk 12:32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Yes, it’s His pleasure. It is not against His will. It’s not because He has no choice. It was Gods’ plan from the beginning! This means that Jesus is our burden bearer! He carried them once and for all. He bore our sins, our faults, our mistakes, and yes, even our misunderstandings. Heb 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Yes, once and for all. Our griefs – our sorrow and our sin were all nailed with Him to that cross. Hallelujah! The obstacles are gone, and no walls are keeping you out!
