Part 2

Unlike the intruder who breaks in, these intruders sweet-talk you into opening the door. Much like the high-pressure salesman who knocks on the door and talks so fast you find yourself letting him in, despite your common sense! These intruders attack your mind.
Have you ever tried to pray and the intruders remind you of everything that needs doing right now? The food is in the oven, the kids need a bath, and you’re sleepy, and hungry – even though none of those things came to mind before you decided to pray. They intrude on your sleep routine and your self-image.
They sweet-talk you with images of the ice cream, cake, or candy you banned from your diet a week ago. They entice you with lies about “one not hurting” anyone! The biggest lie is – I’ll start again tomorrow! Then tomorrow comes and the lie begins again. We go around and around in a circle of lies! My biggest lie is I’m too old to care about my diet. Why not eat as I please, I’ll be dead soon!
If these intruders broke through our doors we would be up and ready to fight, but they don’t, they sneak in when we are occupied, busy, frustrated, bored, or sad! These liars are just as harmful in their own way. They are not harmless – they do damage like the burglar who doesn’t care what he breaks to get in and steal. These intruders tell us we are ugly, fat, useless, and doomed to fail. They point out our faults and imperfections so we can’t see who we are to God. Just like the thief who breaks in to steal your possessions, these intruders will steal your self-worth. Depression, lack of motivation, sluggish lifestyle, and anger are left in the wake of these liars. Can we learn to shut the door – ignore – drive away and rise above the voices of the Intruders? I believe we can. We have to see them for what they are. They are lies. They are intruders. They do not belong!
