John 1:1 In the Beginning was the Word

Intruders!

Part one

This morning I was presented with a life-changing question. How would I handle an intruder at my home? I was in a simi sleep state and so, I imagined sending my grandchildren to a secure room and fighting like a bar room resident to take them down. That idea is funny because I’m a seventy-four-year-old fat lady. The eye-opening moment came when I realized I was in no physical shape to fight an intruder!

The first thing that came to mind was to prepare for such a fight. How do I do that? I know I have to strengthen my unused muscles. I know I have to train my body to react to such intrusions. Such training includes diet, medication, sleep, and bodybuilding, but what about my mind? Certainly, anyone would jump into fight mode in a moment like that, but what happens when our minds say NO… you can’t win… The people I love in my house are in danger, I don’t have the time to think I can’t! In that moment we may lose but we would certainly go down swinging!

Knowing an intruder could come to our door, our job is to get ready now. Prepare before they do. This revelation has opened my eyes to the many intrusions into my mind and health. I can fight it if I see Chocolate Cake as an intruder rather than my best friend! What I once thought of as Comfort food can now be my enemy.

Many of us are in danger because we do not recognize the intruders. They creep in silently, reminding us that our weakness is only a few feet away or of some past offense we would rather forget.

John 10:10  The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.

These intrusions do not come from the Lord. They are not constructive. Being ill, because of our own weaknesses is destructive. To be too weak to fight off an intruder/thief is destructive. The thief comes to destroy your home; your health, your mind, and your spirit! How hard should we fight!
